Varied Paths

Day 1 Part 2
Re-Equipping And Battle

After Kiera opened the door cautiously, Einar went out like a shot, silently scrambling out into the hallway. Kiera and EInar could hear steady, low breathing behind the door at the end of the first half-flight of stairs. After a brief look around the hall, seeing another door to the left of the one at the top, the party went quietly up the stairs until Cerise, pulling up the rear, tripped on a step with a loud thump. The party froze briefly and, hearing motion in the room ahead, Einar pulled the door to the left open and scurried inside. The rest of the party followed suit and closed the door behind them, placing a barrel in front of the door to hold it shut.

Ertai placed a hand on the barrel and quietly said some words in a language no one understood and stepped back, looking quite pleased with himself. “That will hold,” he said proudly. Turning around, he saw Einar already pulling things out of bags that looked they might belong to the party. Ertai, however, had more important things to do. He quickly went to the back of the room where he sensed Hannah was being held. Finding her in a cage, he released her and then returned to the party, finding them equipping their weaponry and finding Einar slipping into his armor.

Suddenly there were shouts outside the room as, apparently, the crew discovered their absence in the cell below. Moments later, the door shuddered as someone attempted to open it, but encountered the barrel holding the door shut. The door pulled back and then slammed open, sending the barrel flying across the room, forcing Einar to leap over it to avoid being flattened.

A crew member charged in the door and was promptly skewered by Cerise’s Soulblade. After a brief but heated exchange, the battle moved into the hallway and the three remaining were dispatched by the party. During the battle, Ertai spoke more word and cause electricity to spark from his hands into the crewmen, shocking them. Due to the noise level of the fight, before they even had a moment to catch their breaths or equip their armor, another group of crewmen were upon them.

With Einar diving and tumbling back and forth through the group of four who had approached them, the party had another battle in which Cerise and Kiera cut down those who stood against the group. Over the course of the fight, the crewmen shouted “Escape!” on three occasions. In battle, Tomas healed the wounds experienced by both fighters and cast a spell causing a crewman’s blade to become red hot and burn his hand, forcing him to drop the blade.

Day 1 Part 1
Awakening

Cerise awakened to find herself locked in a cell with four other individuals. She could tell that the floor beneath her was moving. Her memory of how she arrived in this place was hazy.

Cerise, as well as the other characters, had no belongings on them save for whatever clothing they were wearing, all their equipment was missing.

When she examined the room, she will quickly noticed that there was a man outside of their cell near a second doorway out of the room. She also noticed that the cell across from theirs is empty save for shackles attached to the floor. There were six of them. Upon further examination, she noticed that there was an unused shackle in their cell as well.

Looking at the man in the chair more closely, she saw that he bore the tribal tattoos that mark him as a member of the Kalduk Mercenary Guild. Known to capture only high value targets, all characters would have had no idea why they had been taken. Everyone knew, as well, that the Kalduk are completely without mercy and kill anyone that attempts to escape and then charge the person that hired them 50% of the original fee for the corpse due to their trouble.

Kiera awakened after Cerise, discovering the same information. Attempting to engage the merc in conversation, she was met with nothing but insults and vitriol, apparently primarily directed at Cerise. Curious about the anger, Kiera noticed a very nasty looking bruise on half of his face and a small bruise on the middle of Cerise’s forehead.

Once everyone was awake, they noticed Tomas still sitting with his eyes closed against the wall, but saw that he was smiling calmly. During this time, there were clear tempers due to the situation, and the guard attempted, unsuccessfully, to smash Kiera’s fingers with his club as she clutched at the bars, but she snatched them back too quickly.

After conversing with the party briefly, Tomas stated, “I think it’s time to leave,” flickered out of the cell, grabbed the key around the guard’s neck with one hand and touched the guard with his other, causing the guard to vanish entirely, leaving only the key in Tomas’s hand behind.

Einar attempted to follow suit as Tomas obtained the key, stating “I think it’s time to leave,” and walking to the end of his chain, only to find it still holding firmly to his ankle.

Tomas then placed the key against the seal on the cell door and then placed it against the seal on the shackles belonging to Cerise. Tomas then asked, “Could you quickly go over to where our friend was sitting and watch for him? He’ll be back soon. Oh, and be ready for a fight.”

On the way out of the cell, a blade of energy appeared in Cerise’s hand and solidified.

Tomas then released all other characters except Einar. He then asked Einar, “I’m about to unlock you, but I need you to promise to remain with the rest of us until we reach dry land.”

As Tomas was releasing everyone else, Cerise put her sword through the abdomen of the unsuspecting guard. The characters then dragged the bleeding guard into the cell and bound him in one of the locked anklets.
